Domestic Conference Call

We have a task to perform, and that is to make phone calls to Loebsack's office (202-225-6576) and Harkin's office (202-224-3254) about the Farm Bill still in conference. The House chair, Congressman Peterson of Minnesota, is proposing a cut of $3.5 billion from Food Stamps. Harkin, chair of the Senate ag committee, is proposing a cut of $2 billion.

RESULTS was asked to hold off until final numbers were available. That is just a way of saying, "Leave us alone and let us work this out." Well, as RESULTS activists, we don't buy that approach.

Our calls should ask for two things:
One -- that the numbers for the nutrition title of the Farm Bill be no less than the improvements passed last year, and
Two -- that those improvements should be made permanent.

Please see the laser talk for February in an earlier post. And thank you for making your calls.
